Pioneering on the Pinda
The tribals called Paul ‘Mister Tall’, and Dr Iris they called ‘The Fat Lady’. Her father reluctantly arranged the marriage to a pioneer missionary plagued by ill health. He also yearned to reach a murderous tribe with the gospel of Jesus. When Paul died, Iris determined to return to isolated Malkangiri, Orissa, where she now runs a full-scale development project.
RAC Paul and Iris, who did so much of their work on the pindas or porches of the village homes, represent the thousands of Indian missionaries working in isolated parts of India. Their commitment and creativity challenge us all.
